The poorest and most neglected are the focus of our work as well as the focus of the 2030 Agenda, because with the 2030 Agenda, all UN member states - including Switzerland - have committed to achieving 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. The guiding principle of the 2030 Agenda is "leave no one behind", as sustainable development can only be successful and efficient if the poorest and most neglected sections of the population are reached first.
But in this focus on the world's poorest and most neglected people lies a great challenge: for it is not easy to find those who need help most. They are often marginalized, forgotten by their own government and society. Often they lead an almost invisible life, far from the interest of the public. Moreover, the cost of reaching neglected people in remote areas is very high.
To ensure that these people are not forgotten, FAIRMED has been advocating for them for over 60 years. The motto "leave no one behind" is in our DNA and guides our work. Furthermore, through our commitment to the poorest, we contribute concretely to the fulfillment of five of the 17 SDGs.
We fight poverty (SDG 1) and enable people in our projects to live healthy lives (SDG 3). We empower the poorest and give them a voice (SDG 16) - regardless of their gender (SDG 5). And to ensure that our work has a broader and longer impact, we are committed to the sustainable development and financing of our partner organizations and programs (SDG 17).
No one should suffer or die from a curable disease
