After the earthquake in Nepal: FAIRMED prepares relief measures

FAIRMED

According to the authorities, last weekend's earthquake in western Nepal has so far claimed 153 lives and injured more than 357 people. Thousands of houses, schools, health centers and roads have been damaged and over 20,000 families have been affected by the disaster. FAIRMED is on the ground and is preparing relief measures.

The consequences of the quake that struck the Jajarkot and Rukum West regions at the weekend are serious: tens of thousands of people are homeless and are spending some of their nights outdoors. They need shelter, food and medical care. In addition to material aid, psychological support is urgently needed for those affected, especially for children who have been traumatized by the losses and devastation.

The Nepalese authorities and local NGOs are therefore working flat out to set up emergency shelters and distribute food parcels. However, as many of the remote locations are almost impossible to reach with larger vehicles, this poses a major challenge.

We at FAIRMED have also mobilized our team in the neighbouring district of Rukum East and are preparing relief measures. Together with the government, we are currently clarifying where our support is most needed, which communities and municipalities will benefit most from our efforts and how we can deploy our resources as efficiently and effectively as possible.
